Scott Cunningham
Tasmanian photo-media artist, Scott Cunningham, has exhibited widely since completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Tasmania in 1995. His major works have been presented in numerous local, state and national galleries. Cunningham has extensive works in private and institutional collections including the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and the Kreglinger Collection.
His arts practice responds to the unveiling of the hidden portrait, and the essence of the individual and the environment sometimes via objects. His understanding of ‘sense of place’ in his large scale, highly evocative portraits include some of Australia’s most iconic individuals. Technically brilliant and conceptually driven, Cunningham’s portraits are a representation of our time and place while evaluating who we are.
Cunningham was just 23 when he was offered the position as Head of Photo-media at Newstead College where he forged a reputation for quality and national success for his teaching excellence. In 2005, after completing his Bachelor of Education, his department was ranked among the top 20, nationally, by the Dusseldorp Foundation for his innovative and interactive teaching strategies. He was also made a member of the Golden Key International Society for academic excellence. Cunningham gained his Masters in Fine Arts in 2011 and is currently the Head of Visual and Performing Arts at Launceston College. He is recognised as a practicing educational artist.
