Estuary brings together a series of iterative works in watercolour, collage, and oil painting. The exhibition is grounded in the Rupila Mangina / Pipers River Estuary, located on unceded Country belonging to the Pyemmairrenerpairrener clan of the Northeast nation in lutruwita/Tasmania — a place close to where I live and work— which I imagine as both primordial and timeless.

Abalone and oyster shells, along with salt crystals, serve as starting points for developing a visual language of forms and patterns connected to estuarine waters. Close observation of tidal movements and sedimentation informs my approach to the painting surface, guiding both structure and gesture. Through processes of simplification, repetition, and the juxtaposition of organic and geometric forms, I create compositions that evoke the generative energies of the estuary.

Additionally, I draw on embodied experience and mythological references from Slavic and Balkan traditions, in which living waters are understood as the body of a female deity. These references deepen the work’s exploration of water as both material and symbolic presence.
