This exhibition is a compilation of recent paintings I have completed over the past 12 months. It
includes some of my traditional styled paintings and my Landscape Re-imagined works. The
‘traditional/representational’ paintings are based on my experience and memory of being in the
landscape (often referencing sketches and photos undertaken in the field). The ‘Re-imagined’
paintings on the other hand are largely based on my imagination and emerge from the delight of
playing with and inventing the image. One style is more immediate and defined while the other is
less directional (which requires a much more disciplined and time consuming approach, due to the
extensive use of fine brush work).
I enjoy the challenge of working with these different directions which are for me still closely interconnected, in that they all focus on my love of painting and interpreting the natural landscape and
our relationship with it.
