This series of paintings involves further exploration of Tasmania’s wild coastlines and islands, the passage of time, of the exchange between the human and the natural, seascapes and their embodiment of our dreams and stories.

An island is an idea, a metaphor, a separate world, a refuge. Rocky outcrops stand mute and resolute in steadfast solitude, bracing against the storms of surrounding oceans. They are signifiers of isolation but also sanctuary for plants, birds, molluscs and an astonishing diversity of life. The constant movement of wind and water, the tide ebbing and flowing, the gradual erosion of stone creates difficult terrain for habitation. Life adapts and specialises in these hostile environments. I am interested in the way landscape is viewed; as ancient and tracked with stories, as the land of the palawa people, as an antipodean ideal, as terrain refracted by abstraction and digitisation.
