Gordon Richards
Bold, humorous, yet poignant.
Together with Gordon Richards’ self-confessed passion for “wine, women and food” and his ability to record observations of humour and pathos in everyday life, the artist is rewarded with an instant appeal that has made him one of Australia’s successful artists.
Before painting his first canvas in the early 90’s, Gordon was a highly acclaimed chef and innovative restaurant owner in Bendigo, Victoria, farming much of his own produce, including yabbies! In 1991 he relocated to Noosa, Queensland where his talent for drawing and painting finally emerged – he exchanged his chef’s knives for paint brushes and so began his extraordinary career as an artist.
He now lives and works from his studio in the Southern Highlands, where 10 years ago he became inspired by the local landscape and revived a past craft, sculpting; using sandstone, cortin steel and found timbers in large format.
Gordon’s training as a chef enables him to work fast and spontaneously; scraping back and layering lush acrylics onto his canvases. Together with his self-confessed passion for “wine, women and food” and his ability to record observations of humour and pathos in everyday life, the artist is rewarded with the instant appeal that has made him one of Australia’s successful artists.
In the early 90’s his passion for drawing and painting and his artistic talents and energy were re-channeled… and so began his extraordinary career as an artist. The result was the emergence of an instinctive style producing bold, humorous yet poignant reflections of the human form in all its frailty.
