Helene Weeding

Helene Weeding has gained a reputation as a working artist having numerous solo and combined exhibitions. She has been awarded high distinction in Master of Fine Arts and Design from the the University of Tasmania and has been the recipient of two Academic Performance Award Scholarships, enabling her to continue studying for a Master of Fine Art.

In 2016 Helene was awarded a PhD in creative art and was recently awarded first prize in the ‘Wrest Point Art Prize 2016’. She was also awarded first prize in the ‘Tasmanian Art Award’ at Eskleigh in 1998 and has been a finalist in ‘The John Glover Prize’, ‘The Bay of FiresPrize’, The Hutchins Prize’, among others.

Helene’s area of interest lies primarily in depicting the Australian landscape, particularly large bodies of water and wet atmospheric conditions. The title of her PhD research was ‘The Visible Intangible: an examination of the experience of turbid spaces’.
