Curved Landscape 2
Genevieve de Couvreur
acrylic on concave curved board on canvas / 40 x 40 cm
$2,200.00
Curved Landscape 1 & 2 emerge from over 22 years of living near the Tamar River with its shifting light, water, and terrain. Painted on a concave curved board covered in canvas, the surface resists flatness, echoing the rise and fall of land and horizon. The curve invites the painting to be encountered physically, not just visually.
I work directly onto the raw surface, allowing the paint to bleed and absorb, much like watercolour. This process creates a sense of rawness and vulnerability, where marks cannot be fully controlled and are shaped by the material itself. Colour is central to my practice; I am drawn to its emotional weight and its ability to hold memory and sensation without description.
My approach is intuitive. I pick up the brush and allow the work to evolve, responding to what unfolds rather than imposing an image. The landscape of Tasmania naturally comes through me in an abstract way, not as a depiction, but as a felt presence. By letting the materials speak for themselves, the painting becomes a quiet conversation between surface, colour, and place.

Artists Statement
Resonance, Spectrum, and Tondo form part of an ongoing series of work exploring the sensory and emotional language of colour. Resonance reflects the subtle connection between artwork and viewer, where harmony in colour and form evokes an inner response. Spectrum expands this exploration through the movement and blending of hues, revealing how light and tone shape perception. Tondo, with its circular form, offers a sense of balance and continuity, drawing the viewer inward to experience colour as a meditative and immersive space. Together, the works consider how colour vibrates, flows, and transforms within both the canvas and the viewer.
