Finding the Feet When the Room Collapses
Daria Andrews
oil on linen / 90 x 120 cm
$5,500.00
This work draws on the figure from Tarquin and Lucretia by Tintoretto. In the original painting, Lucretia is violated by Tarquin.
Here, he is absent.
The threat is not embodied in a man but displaced into the room itself. The environment no longer holds. Order gives way. There is no aggressor to confront, only instability to inhabit.
The figure does not dramatise the moment. She does not turn exposure into spectacle. She remains in the body as structures around her fail.
The work shifts the narrative from assault to endurance. It considers what happens when protection and spatial certainty fall away without explanation or replacement.
Stability is not external. It remains even when the room does not.
Daria Andrews
Daria Andrews paints figures caught in mysterious, emotional moments, often naked, deformed, or fragmented, enveloped by bold colours, surrounded by imaginary creatures and mystical symbols. She builds a personal relation with her audience, inviting them into her intimate world via a captured gesture, gaze or shifting focal point. Through her art she shows the importance of personal transformation by finding her own ways of expression, self-confidence, and freedom.
